Ingleby URUGUAYIngleby has five farms in the south-west region of Uruguay, totalling 20,668 hectares. Uruguay differs from most other countries in Latin America. It has no mountains and very little natural forest. Over 80% of the land can be used for open agriculture. Uruguay’s temperate climate and natural grasslands lend themselves to livestock production. However the fertile soils in the south-west are also suitable for wheat and crop farming. Uruguay benefits from a well-developed infrastructure and great port facilities, as well as experienced farmers and increasing crop yields per hectare.

FarmsSouth West RegionThe five Ingleby farms are set in the south west of Uruguay, in the region of the Rio Negro, Rio Cololo and Rio Uruguay. The latter marks the border of Uruguay and Argentina. The farms were all cattle farms but three of the farms have been converted to mixed farms, they will produce crops but also fatten cattle bred on the larger cattle farm. The majority of the land is in natural pasture that is preserved and used for grazing land for our “grass fed” cattle. We run a fine heard of 8,000 breeding Aberdeen Angus cows. Approximately 6,000 hectares are used for producing wheat, corn, barley and soya. The beauty of the rolling country covered in natural grasses is intrinsic to Uruguay, and we are actively protecting these wild grasses. One farm has a ten kilometre border with the Rio Cololo and has some outstanding natural forests along the banks of the river. One forest is a protected woodland of natural Algarrobo trees. |
