Ingleby United states

Ingleby manages one farm in the United States, California. The total amount of land is 1,549 hectares.

The Ingleby farm is located in the San Joaquin Valley, sometimes called "the nation’s fruit basket" because of the great range of fruits, nuts and vegetables grown in its fertile soil.

Irrigation water is critical for the San Joaquin Valley. The most efficient irrigation systems are used, and research is done on the sustainability of irrigated agriculture.

It is an area with a special kind of beauty and a spectacular bird life, which Ingleby works hard to preserve.

Farms

California

In California, Ingleby owns a pistachio farm in the San Joaquin Valley.

In the pistachio orchards, the best known irrigation, fertilizer and pruning techniques are used. The pistachios started producing after five years and will achieve full production in 2012.

21 kilometres of hedgerows, native grasses and bushes, and avenues of California live oaks and Oklahoma redbuds have been planted on the farms.

The pistachio orchard also runs a successful owl protection programme, working with local wildlife groups and schools to recover and release injured owls on the farm. In turn, the owls eat rodents in the orchards. The next step will be to protect the dwindling native hawk populations. A 12 hectare large wetland habitat named Murphy’s Slough has been successfully established and is now home to a rising number of birds and species. Over two years our bird monitoring has shown the number of species increase from 27 to 85.
